While it’s always better to ride your motorcycle during the day when visibility is at its peak, you’ll undoubtedly find yourself riding after dusk or before dawn for several reasons. Perhaps, you have an early commute, or maybe you’re late getting home at night. Either way, it’s important to know some strategies to keep yourself safe while riding your motorcycle at night.

Remain Visible

Being easily seen is the best thing you can be as a motorcyclist after dark. Either apply reflective tape to your motorcycle and riding gear or invest in special light-colored reflective riding gear that can help you stand out from the gray road and black sky. You can also add some more lights to your motorcycle to help you be seen, as well as illuminating your way ahead.

Be Vigilant

You’ll also have to be mindful of the road ahead of you while riding at night because obstacles will be harder to spot. Nocturnal animals may also be present on the roads at night and they can come out of nowhere and will do you more harm than they would do to a car or truck if you hit them. You’ll also want to be aware of drunk or tired drivers who may be swerving in traffic.

Avoid Risks

Try to ride only on well-lit paved roads that have good signage. Unpaved backroads could get you into trouble and make it hard to get help if you need it. Also, don’t drink alcohol before you ride your motorcycle so that you can focus on the road and stay safe.
